Current Prime Lending rate is the same as prime rate given by the banks. It is the bare minimum amount of interest taken up by the lender for investing their money in a non secured loan. The prime lending rate is the basic earning a bank gets for participating in a loan that might get run off with the money they invested. It is also known as benchmark interest rate. It is the minimum charge accrued by banks or financial institutions from its best and credit worthy customers. This is applicable for short term loans which are not secure and is taken up by large corporations.

Current Prime Interest Rate

Prime Lending rate (PLR) is also referred to as the economic indicator and is used for interest rates adjusting on any type of loans. Lending rates are the amount paid by big companies to banks in order to obtain funds of large amounts and have no security.

Current Prime Lending Rate

There are many types of lending rates available nowadays. They are short term prime lending rates, long term current prime lending rate, home equity fixed rates and home equity variable rates. The institution that gives financial aid or banks maintains their own rates for prime lending. The type of products also determines prime lending rates. It is understood that many of the banks change their lending rates within every 6 months. Credit card companies use lending rates in order to calculate interest.

Federal Reserve Prime Rate

It is one of the indicators used to determine the interest charged on credit card variables. Any change in the mortgage rate does not affect benchmark interest rate. Interest rates of mortgage are correlated to prime lending rates. The prime rate is lowered for those who borrow first time from a bank. Therefore it should be understood that loans for the first timers are below the usual prime rate. Lending rate increases when value of bonds increases. There are chances that banks increase PLR when fund obtaining cost increases. Federal fund rates affect the current prime lending rate. This can vary with the demand for credit and fund availability in banks.

Prime lending rates are the rate for which a bank gives loan to its prime customers. Floating rates of interest or adjustable interest rate are usually pledged with that of PLR. The lending rate is not in a direct correlation with the interest rates increase and decrease. So the interest rate fluctuates.

Two factors which will help in reducing the home loan interest with regard to prime rates are lowering of the lending rate and the timing of reducing the benchmark interest rate. These are the factors which can't be predicted when to happen and so is not transparent. The customer can't be sure of when to the Prime lending rate is lowered. Most of the times, the lowering of rates coincide with attracting new customers. When the PLR is not reduced, it remains stable. The PLR is maintained about 3% more than the federal fund rate. Almost all of the financial professionals track current prime lending rate by going through Wall Street Journal lending rates compiled by the newspaper.
